NAMIBIA TRAVEL GUIDE

Road trip Namibia

Namibia is one the most stunning and diverse countries in Africa. From mountains, desert, beach, wildlife parks and just about everything else! It’s seriously stunning. Taking it’s name from the worlds oldest desert the Namib, the country is home to some unique landscapes. Sossusvlei is one such place. Home to deep red sand dunes and a dead tree valley, its hard to come by such an extraordinary site anywhere else.

Namibia is also known for the Skelton coast, which stretches for 500 kilometres and promises shipwrecks and scattered animal bones along its coastline- freaky!

Lets not forget Namibia’s beautiful Etosha National park, covered with a white chalk in dry season, making it seem quite different to other African parks. Here you can camp out and watch the animals congregate at the watering holes.

There is so much more to Namibia from its interesting local culture to German influenced towns like Windhoek and Swakopmund, where you can even go sky diving. There are also some amazing camping grounds throughout the county. Another place to check out is Fish River Canyon which is spectacular, especially at sunset.

Namibia is just waiting for you to have the adventure of a lifetime!

SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL IN NAMIBIA

Namibia is one of the safest African countries for solo female travel. I would still be aware of your surroundings, don’t go out after dark alone or flash valuables, etc. Do your research about the area, especially if you are renting a car. Namibia is a vast country and driving from place to place can take several hours.

Make sure you know roughly how long the journey will take, and that you have enough food and water in case you breakdown. Knowing how to changes tires, check oil levels, etc is vital if you’re driving alone. Be aware of potentially dangerous animals whilst driving.

It can be expensive to hire a car so finding travel buddies in your hostel to share the cost is a good idea- plus it will make you feel a little safer out in the desert. But generally, from a safety point of view Namibia is relatively safe for females travelling alone.

BEST TIME TO VISIT NAMIBIA

Dry season: June to August are the driest and coolest months, so much more comfortable if you are road tripping through the country. Animals will be easy to spot as they gather around the watering holes.

Wet season: December to February will be wet and humid, although you may get some relief from the humidity by the coast. April to May have much less showers and the landscape will still be green from wet season.

The diversely beautiful country of Namibia is situated on the Southwest coast of Africa.
