INDONESIA TRAVEL GUIDE

Indonesia is made up of over 17,000 islands, each with their own unique culture. For divers and snorkellers it’s a dream destination, hosting some of the best underwater marine life and dive spots.

The most common island is probably Bali. This spiritual place is perfect to take some time out for yourself. From spas, meditation and yoga retreats, to the monkey forest and cultural dance show, in Ubud, to the luxury infinities pools down south and the cool mountains up north.

However much Bali is a beautiful destination its also very popular. If you are looking for something a bit more off the beaten track, then there are plenty more islands to choose from. Head to the island of Sumatra, one of only two countries you can see orangutans in the wild.

Or visit the dragons of Komodo Island? Island hop through Gili Islands, Nusa Penida and Raja Ampat? For something more active you could climb up to Mount Batur in Bali- well worth it for the sunrise.

Wherever you go in Indonesia you can be sure to find some excepting and pristine scenery, great food, lots of culture and some incredible wildlife.

SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL IN INDONESIA

myself in front of a temlple surrounded by water

Is solo female travel in Indonesia safe? Yes! Indonesia is a great country to travel solo, especially in the more established islands lie Bali.

Some islands can be more conservative than others so make sure you are prepared with what to expect. It may be helpful to cover up more on certain islands, this will help with any harassment (if you get any).

So absolutely go to Indonesia alone– and remember there’s so many other backpackers you will meet along the way anyway so you can always find someone to befriend.

BEST TIME TO VISIT INDONESIA

Do double check the weather for which island you’re going to as patterns can vary slightly.

Dry season: The most popular time to visit is May to September when days will be dry, sunny and hot.

Wet season: The rainy season is from October to April, although the showers are usually fairly short so you can still get some good weather in between. Prices for transport and hotels will be cheaper at this time so good for budget travellers.

Following Julia Robert’s Footsteps in Ubud, Bali

Seen the movie ‘Eat, Pray, Love’? It’s worth a watch as Julia Robert’s strolls around Ubud’s markets and cycles through the rice fields on a journey of discovery and peace. I decided I wanted my own ‘Eat, pray, love’ experience and headed off to Bali to find culture, sanctuary and spiritual awakening (cheesy huh?). Ubud,
