ZAMBIA TRAVEL GUIDE
Zambia is a much less visited country and somewhere to head if you’re looking for a real African bush experience. The roads are not so well paved so it can be harder to get around but what you will get is uninterrupted natural beauty. The parks are also uncrowded throughout the year.
Zambia is known for its walking tour safaris, allowing you to get closer to the wildlife and really connect with nature. Kafue is Zambia’s largest park and has a varied landscape from North to South, between the open savannah and woodland areas. The swamps at the top end are a haven for birdwatchers.
Zambia is also home to the mind-blowing Victoria Falls, which marks the border between Zimbabwe. This breath-taking sight should not be missed- you can walk along side the falls, walk down to the river below or even fly over the falls (this is best done in wet season when the water is at full force). During the dry season then it’s possible to swim in Devil’s pool, situated right at the edge of the main falls. The town of Livingstone is closest to the falls with several eateries and markets.
From bungy jumping off Victoria Falls bridge, walking alongside wild animals, relaxing on a Zambezi sunset river cruise to visiting a local village and talking with the friendly locals- Zambia has much to offer and is an authentic and unspoiled African country to visit.
SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL IN ZAMBIA
Many women do travel to Zambia alone with no problems. Generally, the locals are friendly but you may get some harassment from local men. Normal precautions for Africa apply- Do not go out alone after dark, dress modestly, don’t flash valuables about and book with a reputable bus company.
Travelling through Zambia can be tricky with road conditions not great in places but there are buses that run between the most popular places.
BEST TIME TO VISIT ZAMBIA
Dry season: From May to October the day temperatures are mild and this is considered the best time for game viewing. August is a good time if you want to see the game pars and the falls.
Wet season: From December to April the rains start and some of the camps close. The best time to visit Victoria Falls though is March to May (just after rainy season).
