SOUTH AFRICA TRAVEL GUIDE

travel guide South Africa

South Africa is a beautiful country and has something for every traveller to enjoy, from amazing beaches, vineyards and waterfronts to the breath-taking mountains, nature reserves and semi desert regions.

You can hike to the top of stunning Table Mountain and then abseil back down it. You can try surfing on the perfect waves at Jeffreys Bay. You can indulge yourself on a wine tasting tour, surrounded by beautiful countryside. Or just relax on one of South Africa’s gorgeous beaches.

South Africa is also one of the best countries for game drives to check out the big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, elephant). With hundreds of tours in places such as Kruger national park, you can go on games drives or walking tours to see the worlds most loved animals. The parks have everything from basic camping to 5-star luxury lodges.

There are also so many adventure activities in South Africa to get your adrenaline pumping. Try bungy jumping from Bloukrans’s bridge or sky diving on the Garden Route. And everything else in between like tubing, parasailing and horse riding.

South Africa is a stunning country and perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors and adventure.

SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL IN SOUTH AFRICA

It is most certainly possible to travel alone to South Africa as a woman but you do need to be aware of your surroundings at all times and take the normal safety precautions. South Africa does have a high crime rate which can be off-putting but plenty of women travel to South Africa solo without any issues.

I strongly encourage you to be as prepared as possible however and do your research beforehand. It can be dodgy in certain places so you will have to be on your guard. Do not walk around after dark and keep an eye on your belongings at all times. Try not to carry too many valuables on you, only a small amount of cash for whatever you need. Joining a day tour is a great way to feel safer and also to make friends too.

Booking accommodation in a central and safe area is a great idea and getting numbers for reputable cab companies and tour groups is also a must.

BEST TIME TO VISIT SOUTH AFRICA

There are such a variety of landscapes, South Africa is really an all year-round destination.

Peak season: October to April is summer and peak season with warm and sunny days. The parks will be at their busiest during this time but it’s great for outdoor activities.

Low season: May to September is much cooler and the parks much less crowded. There is still not much rain so this can be an excellent time for wildlife viewing in the game parks. From November to February the Northern part of the country can be rainy but great for bird watchers.
