MOROCCO TRAVEL GUIDE

Morocco is a colourful and fragrant country– full of life, and a culture mixed between Arab and Berber populations. From the busy streets of Marrakech, to the golden sand dues of the desert and relaxing blue town of Chefchaouen. There’s such a huge diversity in Morocco and one of many dream locations for photographers.

One of Morocco’s most visited cities is Marrakech. This lively city is a maze of souks, food markets and small alleyways, sitting on the edge of the Atlas Mountains. Take a day tour and visit the Ouzoud Falls waterfall which is spectacular. The city comes alive at night with food stalls and storytellers- just remember where you are in the souks as getting lost is easily done.

Another popular city full of vibrant cultures is Fes, famous for its tanneries. This medieval and incredibly colourful city has streets lined with sellers from arts, carpets, leather accessories, shoes, spices, pots and bowls.

When in Morocco you must try the mint tea- which is super refreshing. I enjoyed a cup of this in the mountains which was a welcome delight! For accommodation a traditional riad is a popular choice and a calm away from the city.

SOLO FEMALE TRAVEL IN MOROCCO

market Essaouira, Morocco

Travelling as a woman alone in Morocco can certainly be challenging but definitely do-able. You will undoubtably get harassed by men and touts in the markets etc but learning how to handle that can make your trip a little easier.

For the most part it’s more annoying than anything else and Morocco can be a safe place to travel alone. Keeping covered and moderately dressed can help a lot, plus walking with confidence. Know where you are going and how to get there and if you do get lost, go into a shop rather than looking confused on the street- or you will inevitably end up with a ‘friendly local’ offering you directions in exchange for money.

So for the most part it is pretty safe for solo female travellers who are on their guard and dressing appropriately Morocco is such an interesting country it would be a shame to miss out for fear of harassment.
